I am running for the MSU Board of Trustees because I have seen first hand how important MSU is in shaping Michigan's economy and preparing students for the jobs of the future.
I will fight to keep tuition affordable for Michigan families and ensure MSU has the resources it needs to be a world class research institution.

Sam Singh's platform is a comprehensive strategy that includes the following goals:
- Expand MSU's voice in the legislative process so MSU and other higher education institutions receive the appropriate level of funding during the budget process.
- Expand MSU’s economic development and tech transfer capacity across the state.
- Ensure that MSU has the resources to maintain its world class status as a research institution and academic learning center for students.
- Expand the opportunities for students to be able to access international study, intern and volunteer experiences.
- Ensure the voices of students, faculty and staff are part of the decision making process of the MSU Board of Trustees.
Tuition
As a “Land Grant” institution, MSU has an obligation to be a University that is affordable to working families throughout the state of Michigan. I will fight to keep tuition low by managing capital spending in difficult economic times. I will also support aggressive energy saving plans and make sure MSU’s voice is heard at the Capitol during budget discussions. Also, aggressive fundraising from private foundations and strategic utilization of the University’s endowment should be part of the budgetary decision making process.
State Funding
MSU needs to be more aggressive with the State of Michigan regarding the level of funding for higher education in Michigan. Over the past decade other states in the country averaged an increase of 65% of new resources to higher education while Michigan has only increased funding by 17%. Our lack of investment has resulted in higher tuition and dramatic cuts to departments and programs on campus. For the state to be competitive in a global economy, we can not be short changing our future workforce and economic engines. As a trustee, I will be a passionate voice on this issue.
Economic Development
I believe that Michigan State University is positioned to help Michigan in its economic recovery. MSU can greatly enhance the output of new businesses created by faculty and students with the right tech transfer policies and intellectual property incentives. MSU economic development can expand beyond Mid-Michigan through their satellite offices and MSU Extension.
International Outreach
We are in a global economy and MSU's International programs are some of the best in the country. We need to continue to expand opportunities for students to have affordable study abroad options.
